Privacy Policy

1. What information we collect, and when

When you create an account, sign in, and use Coreader, we collect the basic information required to operate the service, such as your email address, nickname, account identifiers, language preferences, and settings.

When you actively create or upload reading content, we also process the data you provide, including book information, excerpts, recordings, images, notes, writing documents, project materials, and structured outputs generated inside the product.

• Account information: email address, nickname, authentication status, and language preferences.
• Content data: book metadata, excerpts, reflections, questions, drafts, and research projects.
• Media data: audio recordings, photos, uploaded images, and related processing results that you choose to submit.
• Device and operational data: basic logs, error reports, and usage information needed for stability, security, and troubleshooting.

2. How we use this information

We use this information to provide and maintain core product functions, including authentication, cross-device sync, reading record storage, content organization, Studio presentation, troubleshooting, and abuse prevention.

If you enable microphone, camera, photo library, or notification features on iOS, those permissions are used only for the related functionality.

• Store your reading records and sync them across iPhone and Studio.
• Run transcription, OCR, organization, summarization, retrieval, and generated outputs on content you choose to submit.
• Generate reading progress, project outputs, reminders, todos, and review materials.
• Support monitoring, debugging, security protection, and basic product improvement.

3. AI sharing is feature-triggered, not always on

AI sharing happens only when you actively use an AI-related feature. It is not always on by default.

Before sending data to a third-party AI provider, the iOS app shows an in-app consent sheet that explains what will be sent, who receives it, and why. If you decline or choose Not now, non-AI parts of the app continue to work.

4. Who may receive AI data, and for what purpose

Depending on the AI feature you use, the relevant text, audio, images, and necessary book context may be sent to OpenAI, ElevenLabs, and Alibaba Cloud Bailian.

This data is used only for the feature you request, such as transcription, OCR, organization, summarization, retrieval of related context, and generated outputs. We do not sell personal data for advertising.

• OpenAI: may receive text, images, and necessary book or reading context that you choose to submit for OCR, organization, summarization, retrieval, and generation.
• ElevenLabs: may receive audio and necessary context that you choose to submit for transcription or other audio-related AI processing.
• Alibaba Cloud Bailian: may receive text, images, audio, and necessary context that you choose to submit for supported AI organization, summarization, retrieval, and generation workflows.

5. How consent and withdrawal work

The first time you try to use a feature that requires third-party AI processing, the app presents an in-app consent sheet. The sheet explains the data categories, the recipients, and the purpose of the sharing. The data is sent only after you agree.

You can review your current choice, reopen the disclosure, or withdraw consent at any time in the iOS app under Settings > AI & Privacy. Withdrawing consent stops future AI sharing, but it does not block the rest of Coreader.

6. Retention, deletion, and support

Your data may be stored in the databases, object storage systems, and supporting infrastructure we use to operate the product. Retention depends on service needs, your deletion actions, and applicable legal requirements.

You can delete some content inside the product. If you need help deleting an account, making a privacy request, or asking about data that has already been processed by a third-party provider, contact us at https://coreaderstudio.com/en/support. We do not promise in-app deletion of outputs that were already processed by a third party.

7. Permissions and policy updates

Camera permission is used for reading-related photos, microphone permission is used for reading audio, photo library permission is used to import images, and notifications are used for reading timers, reminders, and todo alerts. If you deny these permissions, the related features may be unavailable, but the rest of the app can still work.

If this policy changes materially, we may provide notice through the website, in-app surfaces, or other reasonable means. Continued use of the service generally means you accept the updated policy. If you believe a child provided personal information without proper permission, contact us.
